March 2017

Dear Air Cushion Vehicle enthusiast,

Cruise report - Nudgee Road boat ramp, Nudgee Beach - Sunday 19th March 2017.

The last club cruise was held on Sunday 19th March starting from the Nudgee Road boat ramp at Nudgee Beach and included trips to the mouth of the Brisbane River and the arterial road bridge over Kedron Brook.
Those attending the cruise with craft were:-

Angus Kerr Viper 4 Cruiser
Ben Woodhead Turbo XP960
Les Taylor Turbo 235 Superwedge - Phoenix.
Kim Allen Turbo Wedge 240 - Zesty.
Michael Stephenson Turbo Wedge 240 - Baffle.
Steven Odgaard Bill Baker Vehicle 2 - Static Display

Come rain, hail, snow, sleet, fog or shine, the Queensland ACV's will be there. In what could only be described as good weather for ducks, 6 craft turned out for the monthly cruise and there was a tally of 16 members and family. With a moist nor-wester bringing in the southern tail of a late monsoon system, heavy rain bucketed down on the south east Queensland region. Not to be seen as whimpish, all the regular cruisers turned out with family to see if we really do have our best cruises on days forecast with sable skies and stormy tempest. The morning off shore breeze provided calm lee off the Nudgee and Juno Point coastline.

Michael and Dieter set off down the brook in Baffle at 9:09am and headed out on the bay. They were followed by Kim, Hayley and James in Zesty at 9:23am, Ben in the Turbo XP960 at 9:23am, Les in Pheonix at 9:24am and Angus and Lucas in the Viper 4 cruiser at 9:43am after a pit stop to adjust a starter motor engagement issue.

They travelled north to Jacksons Creek, Jubilee Creek and Juno Point. Michael got a photo of the underside of Kim's craft as he came over the crest of a sandhill in Jubilee Creek. After looking around the mouth of the Brisbane River they all returned safely by 10:33am. Steven Odgaard and Dieter Renish went for a slow cruise up Kedron Brook to the Gateway Motorway bridge just before the junction of Schulz canal at 11:00am.

To Steven Odgaard,
I have reviewed your application to hold an aquatic event.
I have a couple of questions / clarifications regarding on water activities.
As this will be a national event and will have persons from out of state, is there a handout you provide to participants with contact details? (ie local hospital, services, event manager.)
I have viewed your gallery and observed small children appear to be operating these vessels. What restrictions do you place on this?
With your event in winter and the water temperature - recovery of persons in the water and their subsequent treatment.
You are using SES volunteers and vessels as safety boats. What is your alternative if they are called out to respond to an emergency?
These are some of the things I would like to see in your Safety management plan.
Your group certainly looks like it is having a good time on the water.
Could you ring me on 3632 7548 and we can discuss, or best time to call you.
