Cruise report - Muriel St, Redland Bay - Thursday 10th January 2013.
A channel 10 camera crew arrived at Muriel Street today to film Peter Venn and Arthur Stead in their hovercraft for a segment in the TV program Totally Wild. Arthur carried the camera man in his Revtech Renegade along the tidal flats of the Logan River as he filmed Peter travelling alongside in the large Girl Friday TP6, still sporting the colours of the Brisbane Heat cricket team and showing off the brand new bright yellow skirt now fitted to his craft.
Further filming showing the extremely low footprint pressure exerted by hovercraft ( eg: the eggsperiment) was carried out on the grassy area above the boat ramp, as well as an interview with Peter about various aspects of hovercraft. Both craft have permits to operate in the Moreton Bay marine park and Peter Venn has a commercial coxswain’s ticket.
After the film work was complete, Peter and Arthur went for a late afternoon cruise, this time with Peter in the Expo Turbo, also decked out in the Brisbane Heat colours. They travelled out the Logan River, then north past Lagoon, Long and Pannikin Islands, then past the W’s just south of Garden Island, and returned via Point Talburpin, St Claire Island and the Redland Bay Channel.
With a setting sun in his face Arthur made a slight error in navigation and approached the wrong private boat ramp. This little incident would have gone un-noticed except it was captured on Arthur's duct camera and jovially exploited to the amusement of the planning meeting and appropriately highlighted at the correct moment by his travelling companion and life long friend : Peter Venn.
