June 2012
Queensland Sporting Hovercraft Club
A branch of the AUSTRALIAN HOVERCRAFT FEDERATION Inc (Vic)

Dear Air Cushion Vehicle enthusiast,
The Queensland branch of The Australian Hovercraft Federation held a planning meeting on Tuesday, 19th June 2012, at the RC primary school, 350 Mortimer Road, Acacia Ridge.
This meeting was attended by:-

Treasurer:- Phillip Audsley
Secretary:- Steven Odgaard

Other members attending were Angus Kerr, Arthur Stead and Bill Toppin.
Visitors for the evening were Rita Chaffey, Kerri Audsley, Brett Smith and Jamie Behrendorff.

Air Force Cadets Training Exercise:-
On Sunday 9th September 2012 air cadets are having a training day at Crossdale on Lake Somerset, Qld. There will be approximately 22 adult staff, 12 cadet staff and 88 air cadets.

The activities mainly involve a rotation of 5 groups through 5 classroom lectures but it is hoped that a practical display will follow the theory lessons and that is where the club will be involved. Corporal Brett Young has already run this theory course at Hendra Aviation High and is planning a similar event this year, but with 5 squadrons instead of just one and he wishes to involve the experience of QSH or AHF members.

As with glider and sailplane activities, rifle range activities and rugged bivouacs; there is always a lot of paperwork and red tape and a hovercraft training day is no exception. Anyone who wishes to participate will need to apply for a blue card and their craft will need to be subject to scrutiny. Copies of your insurance paperwork is also required.

Brett Young is in need of a small trailer to transport the air cadet’s newly acquired UHT10. The UHT10 is a junior entry hovercraft project by Discover Hover promoted by Chris Fitzgerald and Ken Osmond and is built to plans developed by Bob Wendt and Bill Zang of Universal Hovercraft USA. Plans drawn in AutoCad by Tim Envall of Victoria.

On Sunday 17th June, Kevin Dixon rang and reported that the Hovercraft club of South Australia Inc had recently held a training day with air force cadets in the Adelaide region and advised that the level of paperwork was intense and authorisation was very difficult to obtain.
