May 2012
Queensland Sporting Hovercraft Club
A branch of the AUSTRALIAN HOVERCRAFT FEDERATION Inc (Vic)

Dear Air Cushion Vehicle enthusiast,
The Queensland branch of The Australian Hovercraft Federation held a planning meeting on Tuesday, 17th April 2012, at the RC primary school, 350 Mortimer Road, Acacia Ridge.
This meeting was attended by:-

Secretary:- Steven Odgaard

Visitors for the evening were Rita Chaffey and Brett Young.

Cruise report - 29th April 2012.

Cruise cancelled due to heavy rain and due to key operators away interstate.

Other cruises:-
Club treasurer Phil Audsley and wife Kerri are on a P&O cruise on the Pacific Ocean.

Peter & Elaine Venn, Arthur & Judy Stead, Sam Waugh, Lorraine Brighton, John Mendham and Joy Sleiger have embarked on a river cruise.
A river cruise may seem like a nice way to relax for a few hours to unwind from the hurly burly of city life; however this is no ordinary river cruise. The intrepid 8 have embarked on a month long journey along the continent’s largest river, the Mighty Murray. They began their trip on Wednesday 9th May 2012 from the River mouth where it empties into the Southern Ocean at Encounter Bay in South Australia.

Several South Australian residents came to see the four hovercraft launch at Hindmarsh Island, and among the small group of on-lookers Arthur recognised Royston Downs, a member of the HCV, a branch of the Australian Hovercraft Federation Inc.

Arthur Stead rang right on queue during the business session of the QSH club planning meeting in Brisbane to officially present the only cruise report for the month. Arthur was phoning from a very remote location some 804 kilometres upstream from the mouth. Nearest town was Wentworth. He reported good crowds at various caravan park boat ramps along the way.

Air Force Cadets Training Exercise:-
Corporal Brett Young has completed a 22 page risk assessment as part of his preparation and submission to stage a hovercraft training day on a 5 acre site at Crossdale Qld on Sunday 9th September 2012. The training and transport plans were completed in April although some aspects of the lesson plan may still need to be finalised. Brett’s submission is required to go through 5 tiers of authorisation and as a result as much lead time as possible has been put into the planing of this event. There will be 22 direct adult staff, 12 cadet staff and 88 air force cadets. A map of the site shows 5 training centres and the cadets will rotate through each centre in class room size of approx. 18.

A discover Hover craft has been purchased from Sydney and Brett Young very much appreciated the use of Angus Kerr’s trailer to collect the UHT13 from point of sale. Brett and Jamie returned to Brisbane with the small craft in tow on Tuesday 8th May 2012. Angus Kerr was sick with flu and rang to apologise for not being able to attend the Tuesday night club meeting. Brett Young returned the trailer to Angus and then came straight along to the meeting to discuss his submission and to encourage volunteer support from the local hovercraft club in Queensland. The invitation is of course extended to other members and colleagues of the Australian Hovercraft Federation Inc.

All volunteers working with young people will need to obtain a blue card. Brett Young gave the club 5 copies of blue card application forms. One for each club member he hopes will volunteer their time and services. As secretary of the club, I wish to support this activity and realise the potential this may have in gaining a younger generation of club members.
