October 2010
Queensland Sporting Hovercraft Club
A branch of the AUSTRALIAN HOVERCRAFT FEDERATION Inc (Vic)

Dear Air Cushion Vehicle enthusiast,
The Queensland branch of The Australian Hovercraft Federation held their 251st planning meeting on Tuesday, 19th October 2010, in Room 15 - Our Lady of Fatima RC primary school, 350 Mortimer Road Acacia Ridge.
This meeting was attended by:- Des Goss, Phillip Audsley, Peter Venn, Angus Kerr, Arthur Stead, Dale Baxter, Steven Odgaard and Rita Chaffey.

Cruise report - Lake Narracan, Moe Gippsland - 'The Non Bi-annual Rally of 2010'.

On Wednesday 29th September, Arthur Stead and his trusty ute with Revtech Renegade in tow, embarked on the 4000 kilometre round trip to Moe in Victoria, about an hour and a half east of Melbourne. Des Goss, Steven Odgaard and Rita Chaffey followed a couple of hours later in the XF Falcon, and received some early detour advice from Arthur who had run into flooded roads west of Millmerran, and had to retrace his steps on the way to the Newell Highway.

Our overnight stop at the end of the first days travel was at the Wagon Wheel Motel at Coonabarabran on the Newell highway. Arthur and Steven carried on the coveted ritual started by John Russell and Mark Dobson in 1989 and again by Phillip Audsley & Steven Odgaard in 2000. We partook in a light hearted pillow fight event.
So remember all you weary travellers planning to travel to some far flung hovercraft rally in the future. Don’t overlook this coveted ritual which may help bring some light hearted relief when the plains are hot and dusty and the roos chewin’ roadside shoots need shooin’.

Queenslanders

On 1st, 2nd & 3rd October, the Hovercraft Club Of Victoria put on a great weekend for the interstate visitors and locals who travelled to Lake Narracan, Moe Gippsland for 'The Non Bi-annual Rally of 2010'. We were treated to wonderful hospitality and the excitement of seeing around 20 craft together over the weekend for fine weather cruising and general display with the odd bit of maneuvering trickery thrown in for fun.
Thanks to Frank & Vickie Beamish, Tony Moretti, Racheal Moretti, Peter Streader, Colin Dainty, Ken Osmond, Paul Mott, Tony Westwood, Rod Westwood, David Cropley, Frank Reynen, Reece Isaac, Ivan Price, Glenn Azlin, Wes Tennent, Flemming Jensen, Mike Girdler and more who welcomed us, provided craft for cruising, and generally made the weekend a friendly occasion worth travelling interstate for.
Many thanks to the HCV.

Travellers from South Australia were Heinrick Davids, Bruno Davids and Susie, Kevin and Christine Dixon. Apologies received from Eugene Zanozin of NSW.

Travellers from Queensland were Arthur Stead, Des Goss, Steven Odgaard and Rita Chaffey. Apologies from Steven for forgetting to bring the box of 100 large corks.

Other Club News:-
Last month we received a new membership subscription from John Power of Conway Beach who owns a 2002 Viper 4X (previously owned by Barry Fennell in Maryborough).
Kevin Dixon from Fulham, who owns a Subaru powered Hornet, and Jack Hickmott of Proserpine, who owns a Rotax Bombardier powered Hoverstar, also renewed their membership.
Thanks to these 3 for their valued support of the club.

Kevin Dixon reported that BJS Insurance brokers (Southern) Pty Ltd have reluctantly dropped their request for sea-worthiness reports for craft older than 10 years. The club tried in vain to set this procedure in motion, but there seemed to be too many hurdles with finding suitable experienced candidates within our club to take on the role of scrutineer. Kevin Dixon worked hard on this task and produced a very good tick and flick single page audit sheet, but alas his good work was not able to be used due to time restraint. Ken Osmond and Peter Streader also lobbied to resolve this issue which may have caused some concern for members with old, but well cared for craft.

Australian Hovercraft Federation News:-
