January 2010
Queensland Sporting Hovercraft Club
A branch of the AUSTRALIAN HOVERCRAFT FEDERATION Inc (Vic)
Dear Air Cushion Vehicle enthusiast,
The Queensland branch of The Australian Hovercraft Federation held a planning meeting on Tuesday,
19th January 2010, at the Silverline Insulation office at 12 Veronica Street Capalaba.
This meeting was attended by:-
Vice President:- | Des Goss |
Treasurer:- | Phillip Audsley |
Secretary:- | Steven Odgaard |
Other members attending were Angus Kerr, Peter Venn, Arthur Stead and Dale Baxter.
Visitors for the evening were Lucas Kerr, John Dean, Russ Pullen and Stuart Sidebotham.
Cruise report - Shoalhaven River, Nowra NSW - Saturday 13th Dec 2009.
Arthur and Judy Stead towed the Renegade from Brisbane to Jervis Bay in December to participate with the NSW club at Camp Quality giving hovercraft rides for kids with cancer. This event was held at the Commonwealth Naval Base, HMAS Creswell, about 200 kilometres south of Sydney.
On the return journey from Jervis
Bay the group stopped at Nowra for a cruise on the Shoalhaven River on Sunday
13th December 2009.
Those attending the cruise were:-
Karl & Judy Bowman - Revtech Renegade.
Eugene & Robyn Zanozin - Revtech Renegade.
Arthur & Judy Stead with grand-daughter Ashlea - Revtech Renegade.
Peter (Rambo) Hardi - HoverFlyer 580.
The four craft left the boat ramp beside the Princess Highway bridge in Nowra and headed upstream along the wide Shoalhaven River. Judy Bowman, Judy Stead and Ashlea travelled with Peter Hardi in the roomy HoverFlyer for the trip on the river, while Arthur did his usual trick of forgetting to put the bungs in and spent a few frantic kilometres looking for a place to pull over.
We had a very pleasant time on the Shoalhaven, and once out of the area of tidal influence found
plenty of sandbars, rapids and narrow sections to play in, covering around 65 kilometres for the
day.

News from regional areas of Queensland:-
Russ Pullen has recently immigrated from the UK and now lives at Caloundra.
Russ ran a flying fish hovercraft across the English Channel and returned in the same day. This was
the first time that a small ACV has completed a round trip crossing of this 22 mile wide seaway.
Brett Douglas of Rockhampton enquired about a new craft, he is interested in either a Viper or a Mariah.
Russell Anderson of Maxwelton between Townsville and Mt Isa has a Turbo Superwedge which will not pull better than 4,000 rpm at wide open throttle. We identified a corroded and non-tuned exhaust system as being the most likely cause of the lack of power.
Stuart Sidebotham lives at Cleveland and is interested in attending the club meeting in January to enquire about operating a craft near his bayside home.
Next club cruise:-
The next club cruise will be on Saturday, 13th February 2010 at Muriel St, Redland Bay.
Meet at 9:00 am at Peter Venn's place at 96 Muriel St, Redland Bay for a launch into the Redland
Bay Channel and a run amongst the southern bay islands.
