Dear Air Cushion Vehicle enthusiast,
The Queensland branch held a planning meeting at the Sporting Aircraft Association of Australia hall
at Archerfield Aerodrome on Tuesday, 20th January 2009 which was attended by Des Goss,
Phillip Audsley, Angus Kerr, Peter Venn, Arthur Stead and Steven Odgaard.
Cruise report - Muriel Street, Redland Bay, Sunday 18th January 2009.
The last club cruise was held on Sunday 18th January 2009 from 96 Muriel Street Redland Bay
courtesy of Peter Venn. Those attending the cruise were:-
Peter Venn - Turbo TP6
Neville Bennett - Turbo Vortex
Des Goss - Turbo Wedge 225
Steven Odgaard - Billy Baker 2.
Neville Bennett phoned me from Murwillumbah in NSW, then drove north for the club cruise. Peter
advised me that I had arrived past his shed door just as the clock struck 9.00 am. I replied that I
shall try not to make a habit of this.
Phillip and Kerri Audsley arrived and assisted Des Goss with an electrical repair to one of Peter
Venn's air compressor motors. Angus Kerr with Lucas, Danielle and Cameron called in to see the
action, and young Lucas is keen for Dad to fit a new engine to their hovercraft.
Due to a rusty engine bearer and an under-powered lift engine, Steven hitched a ride in the Turbo
TP6 with Peter and Elaine. Neville Bennett followed down the ramp in his ASV Vortex and Des
Goss set off in his Turbo Wedge 225.
We headed north along Lagoon Passage and kept west of St Clair Island and Pannikin Island. We
took the strong sou-easter on the port beam and headed across to Garden Island, then turned
south. Peter heard some unusual noises coming from the lift fan which sounded like water hitting
the blades. This was later found to be caused by a worn segment at the front. Des Goss and
Neville Bennett had little difficulty in heading back into the strong wind, but used the smooth
water around mudflats and the lee from the many mangrove islands to make passage as smooth
as possible.
Due to the incoming tide we kept the cruise short and retired to the hoverport dining room for
some of Elaine's fresh pikelettes and a pot of tea made on tank water.
Next club cruise:-
The next club cruise will be on Saturday 14th February 2009 at Muriel St, Redland Bay.
Meet at 8:00 am at Peter Venn's place at 96 Muriel St, Redland Bay for a launch into the Redland
