Dear Air Cushion Vehicle enthusiast,
The Queensland branch held a planning meeting at the Sporting Aircraft Association of Australia
hall at Archerfield Aerodrome on Monday, 21st August 2006 which was attended by Des Goss,
Angus Kerr, Peter Venn, Arthur Stead, Tony Hogben from Gympie, and Steven Odgaard.
Apologies from Phillip Audsley who is currently on holidays, also from Peter Ledwoch and Ann Dickinson.
Cruise report - Waterford boat ramp on the Logan River - Sunday 6th August 2006.
The August cruise was held on the Logan River launching from Waterford, on Sunday, 6th August
with 3 hovercraft in attendance.
Des Goss in a Turbo Wedge 225,
Peter Ledwoch & Ann Dickinson in a Simple Cyclone, and
Steven Odgaard in a Billy Baker Vehicle 2.
We met at 9:15 am at Waterford and with a sign on the bridge indicating 6 knots - no wash
upstream, we decided to cruise downstream to avoid any controversy or complaints. All craft
performed well for the trip to Skinners Road Park at Carbrook, although I pulled out at Eagleby
due to fuel concerns. The lift engine in the Billy Baker performed at peak revs on the trip
downstream but lost power on the return leg. At about 70% power there was enough cushion lift
to keep the hull above the water although the skirts dragged heavily.
Peter and Ann had to stop briefly to refuel near Bethania and Des took this opportunity to venture
up Slacks Creek beyond the Logan Motorway Bridge. Steven played it safe and waited on a
mudflat at the creek junction with the Logan River. We all arrived back at Waterford safely at
around 2:00 pm. After packing up, Peter, Ann and Steven enjoyed a meal at the Waterford hotel.
Peter explained that washing his craft down is no problem as he uses Car-lovers and this costs
approximately $8 in coins. These washing facilities use recycled non-drinking water.
